Manila Street Astronomer Gerard Siasat
believes that popularizing science to the public is a vital element of
nation-building. As a law student at DLSU, he believes that science and
astronomy are indeed essential to building a better nation, as mentioned
in Section 10, Article XIV of the 1987 Constitution. As a result, he
finds that supporting MSA's public outreach events is one way of
supporting our nation.
In 1994, a speech entitled ‘The Pale Blue Dot’ delivered by Carl Sagan has made a profound impact to Gerard. The speech reminds us of our ‘responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known’. Gerard believes that reaching to the public about the stars promotes a way of thinking that is essential for the survival of humanity.
Gerard is an aviation enthusiast, particularly, commercial jet planes such as airbuses. He is also a member of the Philippine Astronomical Society.
Gerard is one of the first volunteers who signed up for MSA during the time when it was just starting out.
